Why I love my job
By Dr Nina Sheffield, MD, BSc
My job title is Medical Laser and Cosmetic Injection Specialist. But what I really do is make people happy.
I have always loved to make people happy. It’s one of the reasons why I became a doctor initially; it’s also why I moved away from being an ENT consultant and decided to concentrate on aesthetic procedures.
The main reason people come to our clinic is to boost their confidence, and that’s what I do on a daily basis. Whether I’m helping people to look fresher, removing pigmentation problems or treating other conditions such as broken veins that make them feel self-conscious, they walk out of the door feeling more confident – and happier.
If you like what you see when you look in the mirror first thing in the morning, that sets you up for the day. It makes you nicer to be around, so it not only makes you happier, it tends to make your family happier too. Delivering confidence and happiness is a great job!
Combining medical expertise and art
I also love that I use my medical training and expertise as an ENT consultant every day in my job; my knowledge of the structure of the facial tissues means I know where to inject, what product will work best, how much to use and how deep to go. Having that expertise means I can deliver the very best results for our clients, which is tremendously satisfying. This helps to build up trust with our patients – and I really value this. I love creating honest, trustful relationships that grow over time. It’s why I am always transparent with patients about the results we are likely to achieve. Finally, I love that my job is artistic. Although my scientific training underpins my work, 50% of the skill is artistry; if you don’t have an artistic eye you can’t achieve the results your patients want.
I love combining my medical knowledge with this creative element, to create happy patients who keep coming back to us.
