Skin Tag Removal
Laser Skin Tag Removal in Tunbridge Wells, Kent
Do you have an unwanted skin tag?
Skin tags are small pieces of benign skin tissue that protrude from the surface of the skin. Most skin tags are 2-3mm in size and larger skin tags (papillomas) can reach 5mm or more. They are generally harmless, but some people can develop a large number of these growths all over their body, which can be both unsightly and embarrassing and therefore lead to stress and anxiety. Also, if skin tags snag on clothes or jewellery they can bleed and become infected. They are very common around the neck, underarms, eyelids and groin area. They are often hereditary and can occur during pregnancy due to hormones. The most effective way to remove them without scarring is Cosmetic Radio surgery or Erbium Laser.
Skin tag removal is a very quick and simple procedure which can be done on the same day as the consultation. A tiny amount of local anaesthetic is injected at the base of the stalk to numb the tag. The tag is removed by shave excision using an electric cautery device which heats up a fine wire to a very high temperature. For big and complicated skin tags we use Erbium Resurfacing Laser.
Immediately after the treatment, a small, attrition-like wound appears in the treated area. Within a day a small scab will form, and the superficial wound to the skin takes 7-10 days to heal.

Even though there is no harm in leaving skin tags in place, their removal can give a huge confidence boost.
All laser procedures will require a test patch a minimum of 24 hours prior to treatment. This is a standard requirement for safety and insurance purposes.
The local anaesthetic will be injected to numb the skin to make the procedure pain free
The removal of a tag is fairly quick and often takes about 5-10 minutes.
After skin tag removal with Radio Cautery surgery a small scab will develop between 5-10 days. The tissues under this area will heal and contract leaving it slightly but over a few weeks this will gradually fade to normal skin colour. Scars after skin tags removal are very rare and are usually associated with poor after care and infection.
All procedures are done with an aseptic technique but, with any cuts, there is always the chance of infection. Should you notice any undue redness, swelling, pain or pus, you should contact your doctor without delay.
