Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments for both men and women. Laser hair removal can achieve dramatic results to obtain permanent removal or substantial reduction in hair after a course of treatment.

rtwskin is different from most clinics and salons offering laser hair removal. We offer the most advanced laser hair removal treatment using only top quality European built medical lasers costing many tens of thousands of pounds. Not cheap and cheerful devices from China. All skin and hair types are different and it is essential that a properly trained practitioner is able to select the best device for your particular skin and hair type.

Most clinics have only one device and make it work across skin and hair types. We have a total of six devices for Hair removal.

Let’s be very clear: IPL hair removal is not the same as Laser hair removal.

It is important to know that many clinics and salons claim to offer laser hair removal when in fact they are using the inferior IPL (intense pulsed light) machine. IPL has a broader light spectrum so is far less precise at targeting hair than a laser. As a result, only some of the light energy is used effectively for hair removal and it also means that some hair is are not treated effectively. In addition, some of the light can be absorbed into the surrounding tissue, leading to heating of the pigment in the skin. This is why there is more risk of burns for darker skin types with IPL and in some cases this has resulted in patients suffering from increased hair growth, damaged skin and pigmentation.

Laser is a targeted and penetrative light, which travels down the hair follicle and destroys the blood supply. IPL is a scattered light which penetrates only a small amount of follicles at the correct wave length for removal. For this reason more treatments are needed with IPL on average approximately double, therefore laser is a much more effective type of hair removal.

During your free consultation the practitioner will discuss the expected number of treatments you will require and perform a free laser test patch.

Our Care Quality Commission registration requires us to carry out all procedures in a safe, medical environment, so you know that your health and safety are as carefully safeguarded as your appearance.

We always offer competitive rates and often have special offers available including finance options.

A small area, such as upper lip, would cost around £65 for a single session. However prices are reduced if you book a full course.

A small example of our packages are as follows:

Women’s Holiday Package: Six Treatments – Half legs, Bikini, underarms £1,400.00. Saving £280.00.

Men’s Torso Package: Six Treatments – Full back, shoulders, full chest and stomach £2,200.00

All laser procedures will require a test patch a minimum of 24 hours prior to treatment. This is a standard requirement for safety and insurance purposes.

Laser light transmits light energy as heat via the pigment in the hair, known as melanin. This energy travels down the hair shaft and damages and disables the hair follicle thus preventing the hair from growing back. Laser hair removal works best on dark hair and skin type I-III because it contains more pigment to absorb the laser light. Fair hair and red hair can respond to the correct laser but white hairs will not, since this hair colour contains little or no pigment. Electrolysis is available at rtwskin for grey, blond and very fine hair.

Regular treatments will get the best results. We recommend Laser treatments every 4 weeks to remove facial hair, and every 6-8 weeks to remove body hair.  Average 6 – 12 treatments will be required to get satisfactory results but the exact number of treatments will vary between individuals. Patients with polycystic ovaries or other hormonal conditions are advised to see their GP prior to Laser treatments or book a consultation with our Dermatology team. Additional sessions may be required to achieve a satisfactory result.

You may experience some skin redness which could last from a few minutes to 24 hours. Sometimes the skin can feel itchy for a few hours. We expect your treated hair to fall out between treatments. We do not recommend you wax or pluck these hairs.

In the first few days following treatment, Aloe Vera Gel should be applied regularly to soothe the area.
A sun protector, at least SPF30 should be applied to the exposed treated areas every day for at least four weeks after the treatment, regardless of the weather. Ideally the area should not be exposed to direct sunlight until the course of treatment is complete. Regrettably it is not possible to treat tanned skin for safety reasons.
You may continue to shave or use depilatory creams if you wish to keep the treated area ‘hair free’. However it is not advisable to pluck or wax the area between treatments as this disturbs the hair growth cycle which can make subsequent treatments less effective.
Please ensure that 1-2mm of hair is visible on the surface of your skin when returning for follow-on treatment. i.e. shave 3 to 4 days prior to treatment.
