How does Lumigan/Latisse® work?

Lumigan®/ Latisse® solution is a prescription growth treatment for lengthening eyelash, and is clinically proven to have 100% success rates to increase eyelash length by 25%, thickness by 106%, and darkness by 18%, after 16 weeks on average. Lumigan®/ Latisse® received FDA approval in the states for hypotrichosis – treatment of thin eyelashes. Lumigan®/ Latisse® is the brand name for a drug called bimatoprost, and is available in the UK.

Applied at night to the base of the upper eyelashes, Lumigan®/ Latisse®  stimulates the growth phase of the hair follicle as well as the volume of hairs growing in this phase. After 4 weeks, the result can be longer eyelashes, with full growth after 16 weeks. Lumigan®/ Latisse® was developed by Allergan in 2001 and uses Bitamoprost as the active ingredient. Initially used to treat Glaucoma, users of Lumigan®/ Latisse® noticed their eyelashes grew longer and thicker. Bitamoprost was trialled further on 5000 patients over 13 years, and it was proven that Lumigan®/ Latisse®  is not only safe, but that 100% of patients treated will see an improvement in their eyelash quality.

Instructions for use:

• Make sure your face is clean and remove your make-up and contact lenses before using this medicine.
• Always wash your hands before and after using this medicine.
• Place one drop of the solution on the disposable sterile applicator and apply it evenly along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes and not dropped into the eye.
• Remove any excess solution around the eyes with a tissue or any absorbent cloth.
• Repeat for the other upper eyelid margin using a new applicator.
• Do not apply this medicine on the lower eyelashes.
• Dispose of the applicator after each use.

To keep the medicine as germ-free as possible, do not touch the applicator tip to any surface (including the eye). Also, keep the container tightly closed. Serious damage to the eye and possible loss of vision may result from using contaminated eye medicines.
