There are a number of procedures that can be done to improve vertical lines around your upper and lower lips: Dermal Fillers, Laser Resurfacing & Chemical Peels. Good skin care products, based on Retinol, Fruit Acids, Vitamin C and high factor sun block can prevent wrinkles appearing and are absolutely vital for skin repair and skin health. We recommend Obagi Nu-Derm or ZO Skin Health prescription medication. These products will activate your skin cells and rebuild collagen, improve circulation, while hydrating and protecting your skin from further sun damage. The next treatment will depends on the skin condition and what results were achieved after your skin was repaired and nourished with Obagi or ZO products.
- A few superficial vertical wrinkles in the lips can be successfully treated with hyaluronic acid based Dermal Filler Juvederm.
- Deep vertical lip lines will respond effectively with the Repair + Resurface + Refill approach. Firstly, improve and repair damaged skin with the prescription topical medication; secondly, smooth and resurface wrinkles with CO2 Laser or a Deep Chemical Peel; thirdly, restore the loss of volume with Dermal Filler Juvederm, which is recommended 3-6 weeks after the resurfacing procedure.
Dermal Filler, Laser Resurfacing or Deep Chemical Peel treatments should be considered after your skin has been prepared with the medical prescription skin care products for several weeks. It is very important to activate skin cells and build up collagen before these treatments, as it will significantly improve your skin healing process and reduce the possibility of any side effects associated with Laser procedures or Deep Chemical Peels.
In addition to skin resurfacing we recommend you add volume to your lips. Deep vertical lines are often the result of volume lost from the lips as we age, this is why we recommend Dermal Filler Juvederm.
Note: Light Chemical Peels or Microdermabrasion are not effective treatments for upper/lower lip wrinkles.
